It’s small, free, portable and very easy to use as long as you follow the advice it gives and only attempt fixes for problems that you definitely have.

It covers many of the SAS fixes but adds a lot more besides. WinFix offers a good selection of fixes for common Windows problems in Vista and Windows 7/8 – particularly those caused by viruses and malware. It is good practice to only attempt one fix at a time and restart your computer after each fix to check if the problem is resolved.

Most of the repairs will reset the component back to its original (default) state – if your component is working ok but has been modified by legitimate software you will lose those legitimate modifications. Warning: Do not run a repair if you do not have the problem identified by it. It is highly advisable to perform both functions before applying any of the fixes. If all that sounds a little daunting, a useful alternative is to make such fixes with a single utility program – offering ‘one click’ repairs for many common Windows problems.

Many of the most common Windows issues can be fixed by advanced repairs such as editing the registry, re-registering DLL files, tweaking settings and restoring components to their original state.
